“The victory in three categories shows how converters and brand owners have utilized the possibility to choose the right substrate from our broad product portfolio. The award-winning cartons reflect new innovations and solutions created for the benefit of the consumer. The jury particularly highlighted the use of the single, renewable material in the confectionery and healthcare packaging,” says Öystein Aksnes, General Packaging Segment Director at Stora Enso.
The winner of the confectionery category is Egg Box, manufactured by Karbest for the brand owner De Neuville, from the material Performa White by Stora Enso. The carton resembles an Easter egg, and children can reuse the packages as toys and containers. Clever, attractive, innovative and fun were just some of the words used to describe this carton that contains mini chocolate eggs, without the need for any plastic.
The beverage category winner is Polz Brandy XO, a carton produced by Schachner-Pack from CKB by Stora Enso. The two-part packaging fits the special shape of the brandy bottle, and its black and gold colours enhanced with a matt soft-touch varnish and a glossy spot varnish create noble look for a high-quality product. CKB is a strong enough material for packaging the heavy bottle.
Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals winner
The winner is a child-proof packaging manufactured by A&R Carton for Orion Pharma Oy Sileo, a medicine for dogs. The material is a special, tear-resistant board from Stora Enso, Ensocard Pharma TR. The jury was amazed at the internal engineering of the pack, which allows it to be easily opened by an adult by depressing the areas highlighted with yellow, while the contents are safely secured from children. The carton is produced in a single run on the machine as well as filling in a single run. Functionality, usability and sustainability are absolutely state-of-the-art, thanks to the specially-developed material and structural design.
